Zelimkhan Khangoshvili wounded in Tbilisi

In Tbilisi, Zelimkhan Khangoshvili, a resident of the Pankisi Gorge, who was involved in the second Chechen campaign, was hospitalized with gunshot wounds got as a result of an attempt on him.

Zelimkhan Khangoshvili was wounded in the Saburtalo District of the capital of Georgia on May 28, at 9:30 a.m. He was hospitalized in the republican hospital with a gunshot wound, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed at the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Georgia.

This is not the first attempt to assassinate Zelimkhan Khangoshvili. According to Umar Idigov, head of the ‘Foundation of Georgian peoples integration’, in 2009 criminals made an attempt to poison the man. The source has also added that "Zelimkhan Khangoshvili enjoys great prestige among residents of the Pankisi Gorge."

Let us remind you that Zelimkhan Khangoshvili became well-known after the events occurred in August 2012 in the Lopota Gorge not far from the Georgian village of Lapankuri.

The Russian media used to describe Zelimkhan Khangoshvili as one of the leaders of the militants based in the Pankisi Gorge and, simultaneously, as an agent of the Georgian secret services.
