"Radio Liberty" managers appeal to court with claim of Khadija Ismayilova's innocence (+video)
In Baku, at the trial in the case against journalist Khadija Ismayilova, the court has agreed to summon for questioning the tax inspectors, who signed the act of tax violations allegedly committed by the defendant. The other defence's motions were dismissed by the court. Meanwhile, the managers of the "Radio Liberty" have filed to the court an appeal with claim of Khadija Ismayilova's innocence.
On August 19, the court session in the case against Khadija Ismayilova was held at the courtroom of the Baku Court of Grave Crimes. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Aiten Mamedova, a reporter of the opposition newspaper "Azadlyg". According to her, two thirds of the seats at the courtroom were occupied by persons unknown to her.
Aiten Mamedova has reported that at the session, the court continued the examination of the documents.
Khadija Ismayilova has read out the appeal of the "Radio Liberty" managers to General Prosecutor Zakir Garalov and Judge Ramella Allakhverdieva. The appeal states that because of "unlawful interference" of prosecutors and tax inspectors, the activities of the "Radio Liberty" has been paralyzed for eight months already. Despite the fact that the tax audit of the "Radio Liberty" is not completed yet, the case against Khadija Ismayilova has been sent to the court.
According to Aiten Mamedova, the authors of the letter express their confidence that the new charges against Khadija Ismayilova have been put forward to support justification of her arrest.
After the court session, Fariz Namazly, the defendant's advocate, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that the court had dismissed the defence's motions again.
