NAC confirms links of Makhauri and Vedzizhev, killed in Nazran, with IS
In June this year, Beslan Makhauri and Ilyas Vedzizhev, killed in Nazran, swore to the "Islamic State" (IS), says the Russian National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC).
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 31, in the territory of a marketplace in Nazran, during a shootout, two persons were killed – Beslan Makhauri and Ilyas Vedzizhev. Policemen tried to detain them on suspicion of being militants; and according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), they rendered armed resistance.
In June this year, both casualties gave oath to the IS (IS, earlier the ISIL – Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant – was recognized as a terrorist organization; and its activities were banned, – note of the "Caucasian Knot"), the TASS reports, referring to the NAC.
Let us remind you that Makhauri and Vedzizhev were on the federal wanted list. According to investigators, Makhauri was the leader of the Ingush underground and was involved in attacks on power agents and the terror act outside the ROVD building committed on September 16, 2013, in Sernovodsk. The explosion then killed three policemen.
The NAC has earlier confirmed that Makhauri had once been a confidant of Doku Umarov, the leader of North-Caucasian underground.
Ilyas Vedzizhev was the leader of the so-called "Nazran" grouping of militants, consisting mainly of residents of the village of Plievo and the city of Nazran, says one of the websites that support power agents.
