Six people killed in special operation in Azerbaijan (+video)

Today, in the village of Nardaran, which is located 25 kilometres off Baku, clashes broke out between policemen and believers. Four members of the movement "Muslim Unity" and two policemen were killed, law enforcement bodies of Azerbaijan report. Talekh Bagirzade, a Shiite theologian, was detained.

According to the today's joint statement of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Azerbaijan, Baku "took urgent operative measures after receiving the respective information."

"It was found that Talekh Kamil oglu Bagirov (Bagirzade), Elmar Seydamir oglu Agaev, Zulfugar Sadraddin oglu Mikailov (Mikailzade) and Abulfaz Kheydat oglu Bunyatov had established the movement 'Muslim Unity' with the aim to overthrow the constitutional order in Azerbaijan and create a religious state governed by Sharia laws," says the statement.

According to the GPO and MIA, "a special operation was undertaken in Nardaran to detain the above persons."

"In the course of the operation, policemen faced armed resistance and automatic fire; grenades were thrown at them. In response to the incessant fire, the special task force had to apply their service weapons. Four members of the criminal grouping were killed; several others wounded," says the above joint statement.

According to law enforcement bodies, two policemen were also killed in the above operation.
