Experts doubt Armenian opposition's ability to challenge results of referendum

Armenian experts have expressed their position concerning the actions of the opposition at the press conference held in Yerevan on December 10, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

On December 6, Armenia held voting at the referendum on the constitutional reform project. Accoding to the Central Election Commision, the voter turnout reached 50.51%, while 63.35% of the votes gave their voices in favour of the constitutional reform.

At the press conference, political analyst Armen Bagdasaryan has reported that the opposition will not be able to collect signatures of 27 deputies of the National Assembly of Armenia needed to appeal to the Constitutional Court with the demand to recognize as null and void the results of the referendum on constitutional reform.

Political strategist Armen Badalyan has stated at the press conference that the referendum on constitutional reform has shown that the opposition is able to say "No!" to the authorities, but has no resources to secure its victory de jure.

In his turn, political strategist Vigen Akopyan has said that he foresees no mass rallies of opponents of the constitutional reform.

"The opposition takes no qualitatively new steps. The society which believes being deceived should take a look at the opposition in a new way and get new emotions. So far, I see no steps for creation of a united front or headquarters, coordinating the actions of the opponents of the constitutional reform," Vigen Akopyan has stated.
