People's Poet of Dagestan Fazu Alieva dies
Today, the People's Poet of Dagestan Fazu Alieva, who wrote in the Russian and Avar languages, has died in her 84th year of life. This fact is reported by the TASS with reference to the spokesman of the head of the administration of the leader and government of Dagestan.
Alieva was born on December 5, 1932 in the village of Ginichutl, Khunzakh District, of Dagestan. She took an active part in the social life of the republic, taking the posts of the chair of the Dagestani Committee for Peace and the Women's Union of the Republic of Dagestan. Alieva was elected an MP of the Supreme Soviet of the Dagestani Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (DASSR) of four convocations; for 15 years she was the deputy speaker of the Soviet. In 1967, she was awarded the title of People's Poet of Dagestan.
Fazu Alieva is the author of over 80 books of poetry and prose, translated into 68 languages all over the world, the RIA "Dagestan" reports.
