Arkhyz
Settlement of city type in Karachaevo-Cherkesian Republic(Zelenchuksky area) in a valley of the river Big Zelenchuk, on northern slopes of the Big Caucasus, at height of 1450 m, on Arkhyz site of Teberdinsky reserve, in 109 kms from a railway station of Dzheguta. Picturesque environs (high-mountainous woods, lakes, waterfalls, etc.) and abrupt slopes of mountains attract numerous tourists and climbers to Arkhyz. Near the village of Lower Arkhyz an archeologic monument X-XII of centuries - "Arkhyzskoye gorodische" - was kept with the rests of an Alan city (ruins of stone houses and constructions, three christian temples of X-XI centuries and other objects). Favorable climatic conditions, especially in summer and autumn, and presence of carbonic mineral waters (taken out to the surface by drilling) promote the development of Arkhyz as a resort district.
