KBR resident suspected of helping militants
Investigators believe that the 34-year-old resident of the village of Islamey, Baksan District of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), helped members of the underground by providing housing and foodstuffs.
The man was detained by agents of the Chief Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Russia for the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) on suspicion of committing extremist crimes.
In the course of interrogation, he confessed that from June to July 2013 he helped four members of an illegal armed formation (IAF) by providing them with housing and foodstuffs, and also helped them with secret transportation. The militants, whom he helped, according to the police, were killed in July 2013 during a special operation.
A criminal case has been opened against the detainee under Part 2, Article 208 (participation in an armed formation not envisaged by the federal law) of the Russian Criminal Code. He is kept at one of SIZOs (pre-trial prisons) of the KBR, says the website of the above Chief Department.
Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" has reported about other cases against KBR residents, accused of helping militants.
Thus, on February 1, the Prosecutor's Office announced the transfer to the court of the case against a resident of the Elbrus District, accused of helping militants with money to make bombs for terror acts.
