Resident of Chechnya convicted for involvement in IAF

The court has sentenced Ramzan Tershiev, a resident of the Vedeno District of Chechnya, to two years in a colony-settlement for participating in an illegal armed formation (IAF).

According to investigators, in 2000 Tershiev voluntarily joined one of militant groupings. "He was an IAF member till 2007; in July 2009, Tershiev was detained, along with several other militants, at crossing the Azerbaijani border, and later was sentenced in Baku to a long imprisonment. In November 2015, he was extradited to Russia," a source from the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 20, 2010, Ramzan Tershiev, as well as the natives of Northern Caucasus Sukhrab Merzhuev, Khasan Khaldykharoev, a citizen of Turkey Ilkhan Tashbey, and a citizen of Azerbaijan Ramiz Mirzoev, were accused of illegally crossing the Azerbaijani border, illegal possession of weapons, an attempted murder and other crimes. According to investigators, July 16, 2009, the members of the armed grouping opened fire at the Azerbaijani border guards, who tried to detain them. As a result, Bakhruz Isaev, a soldier of the Zagatala frontier regiment, was wounded. One of the attackers was killed; other members of the grouping were detained a few days later.
