Armenia accuses Azerbaijan of shelling its villages
The Armenian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has reported that its positions were shelled by the Azerbaijani side. Furthermore, according to the Armenian MoD, villages in the vicinity of the town of Vardenis of the Gegharkunik Region were also shelled by Azerbaijan.
According to the Armenian MoD, the attacks were registered in the period from 10:35 a.m. till 11:00 p.m. local time of April 6.
In the afternoon of April 5, the parties to the Karabakh conflict declared a truce after the escalation of the situation at night of April 2. However, reports of violation of the regime of ceasefire continue to come.
The Azerbaijani armed forces used firearms of different calibre, as well as large-calibre machine guns and mortar launchers, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Artsrun Ovannisyan, the press secretary for the Armenian MoD.
It should be noted that in the east, the Gegharkunik Region borders with Azerbaijan, and in the south-east with Nagorno-Karabakh.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, the Nagorno-Karabakh Ministry of Defence reported on attempts of Azerbaijani soldiers to enter at night the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh and on repeated violations of ceasefire by Azerbaijan. According to the Azerbaijani side, its positions were shelled 119 times a day both from the territory of Armenia and from the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh.
