CDSI: from 1994, 785 Azeri servicemen killed in Karabakh conflict zone

For 22 years of the ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh, Azerbaijani Armed Forces losses amounted to about two thousand soldiers killed and wounded. Of these, 785 were killed, 125 were killed by blasting mines, said the Caspian Defence Studies Institute (CDSI).

For 22 years – since the entry into force of the ceasefire on May 12, 1994, to April 7 this year – the losses of Azerbaijani Armed Forces on the contact line made up to two thousand killed and wounded persons, says the report of the CDSI.

The Caspian Defence Studies Institute (CDSI) works from February 2015 in Germany. One of its founders was Jasur Sumerinli, who left Azerbaijan in September 2014.

During the above period, 785 Azerbaijani servicemen were killed, and over 850 others were wounded, said Jasur Sumerinli, the head of the CDSI. According to his story, other 125 Azerbaijani servicemen were killed by mine explosions; these explosions also wounded over 240 servicemen.

During the reported period "as a result of shelling by the Armenian party over 70 civilians were also wounded."

According to the CDSI, during 22 years, more than 30 Azerbaijani servicemen were taken prisoners. Later, five of them were subsequently sent to third countries, the others were returned.
