According to the appeal of 14 international organizations, the Khadija Ismayilova's case proves the suppression of freedom of speech in Azerbaijan.

On September 8, 2015, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) accepted as a priority the Khadija Ismayilova's complaint about her pre-trial detention in custody, which, according to the defence, was unjustified.
14 organizations led by the "PEN International" and the "Privacy International" (the organization dedicated to the issues of privacy) have applied to the ECtHR on the eve of the consideration of the Khadija Ismayilova's case. The organizations draw attention to the presence in the case of violations of the principles of the protection of freedom of expression and privacy, as reflected in the European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR).
The authors of the appeal believe that the verdict of guilty for Khadija Ismayilova was a revenge for her investigation of cases corruption among top-ranking officials in Azerbaijan.
