According to a sister of Ramazan Rashidov, Ramazanov and Rashidov were distant relatives and both of them were preventively registered at the Dagestani Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

On June 20, the relatives of Ramazan Rashidov and Shamil Ramazanov reported that they found eyewitnesses to the kidnapping. Furthermore, a video was also released, showing how several people, including men in uniform, were beating Shamil Ramazanov and taking him away in their car.
