Mayor of Rostov-on-Don refuses to resign after flooding
More than 6000 people have signed a petition with a request to the Russian President to dismiss Sergey Gorban, Mayor of Rostov-on-Don. The people believe that the City Mayor fails to perform his duties. Sergey Gorban has criticized the authors of the petition and refused to resign.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the evening of June 30, the centre of Rostov-on-Don and a number of city residential districts were flooded. A 14-year-old girl was killed, and eight other persons were injured.
A petition to President Vladimir Putin, Rostov Region Governor Golubev, and to the top-ranking officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for the Rostov Region is posted on the petition website Change.org. The petition is entitled "Sergey Gorban's resignation from the post of the chief of the city administration of Rostov-on-Don".
The author of the petition is Vyacheslav Murashko, a resident of Rostov-on-Don, who believes that "the chief of the city administration fails to perform his duties and must resign."
As of 2:40 p.m. Moscow time of July 3, the petition demanding the resignation of Sergey Gorban collected 6784 signatures. Sergey Gorban himself has sharply criticized the petition demanding his resignation, posted on the website Change.org.
"We live in Russia. If there are people using the US website who want to send me to resignation, then let them send [US President] Obama to resignation," said Sergey Gorban.
