Opposition accuses Abkhazian President of unwillingness to be engaged in dialogue

In Abkhazia, the block of the opposition forces has issued an appeal to the people of the republic. In their appeal, the oppositionists claim that they treat the President Raul Khadjimba's refusal to postpone to the autumn the referendum on the early presidential elections as a provocation of new mass protests.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 5, in Sukhumi, the opposition supporters gathered for a rally with the demand to dismiss Leonid Dzapshba, Abkhazian Minister of Internal Affairs, and postpone the referendum on the early presidential elections. The protest action has resulted in attempts to assault the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). Raul Khadjimba has decisively refused to fulfil the demand of the opposition to postpone the referendum on the early presidential elections to the beginning of the autumn.

"The issues faced by the President could be resolved within one hour. However, by delaying decision-making, the government has chosen a dangerous tactic of political intrigue instead of a constructive dialogue," claims the appeal of the block of the opposition forces addressed to the people of Abkhazia, published on the website of the "Amtsakhara" Party on July 6.

"The block of the opposition forces treats the statements and actions of President Raul Khadjimba as his decision to go to open confrontation and provocation of new mass protests of citizens," the appeal states.
