Dagestan: people remember Akhmednabi Akhmednabiyev three years after his murder
In Dagestan and beyond the republic, people still remember Akhmednabi Akhmednabiyev, a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, as a courageous journalist. This was stated by colleagues of the murdered journalist.
On July 9, 2013, Akhmednabi Akhmednabiyev, the correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot" and deputy editor-in-chief of the "Novoe Delo", was killed in the suburbs of Makhachkala. The basic version of the crime was in Akhmednabiyev's professional activities.
Akhmednabi Akhmednabiyev had worked as a correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot" for more than seven years, covering acute topics. Readers of the "Caucasian Knot" nominated him the first among ten equals in the contest "Hero of the Caucasus-2013".
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 8, 2016, advocates filed a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). According to the complaint, the investigation into the murder was carried out ineffectively and the authorities failed to take measures to protect the journalist.
"People quite often come to our office and start talking that they were familiar with Akhmednabi. They remember him as a courageous journalist, who dared to raise sensitive questions that others tried not to notice," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Gadjimurad Saghitov, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Novoe Delo".
He associates the lack of progress in the investigation with the fact that in his articles, Akhmednabi Akhmednabiyev criticized the law enforcement bodies.
Public officials are being annoyed by the activities of independent journalists who have their own opinion concerning the events occurring in the country and throughout the world, and Akhmednabi Akhmednabiyev also faced such an attitude. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Magomed Magomedov, a political observer of the Dagestani newspaper "Chernovik" (Draft).
"And the fact that the murder of the journalist, a blatant and cynical murder committed almost at the doors of his own house, is not being investigated and that the state goes to court seeking to write off the case to the archive only confirm the version that the Akhmednabi Akhmednabiyev's death involves some law enforcers whose names, unfortunately, are still not made public," believes Magomed Magomedov.
