In May, the "Legal Initiative" filed a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in defence of Ayub Tuntuev, who complained about torture. According to human rights defenders, after being tortured at the penal colony IK-6 of the Vladimir Region, Ayub Tuntuev signed a confession that he took part in the combat actions in the territory of Chechnya and Dagestan in 2000-2005.

The terror act in the village of Znamenskoye was committed on July 19, 2005. 14 people were killed as a result of a car bombing. Aslanbek Vitrigov, Ali Agamerzaev, and Ayub Tuntuev, were detained, and investigators treated them as persons who committed the terror act. Later, Supyan Arsanukaev, who was mentioned in the case as an organizer of the terror act, was killed.
