MCC extends Zakaev's arrest by three months
Today, the Moscow City Court (MCC) has granted an investigators' petition to extend the arrest of Khasan Zakaev, a native of Chechnya, accused in the case of the seizure of the Dubrovka Theatre in 2002, by October 21.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in December 2014 the criminal investigation into the terror act committed during a performance of the musical "Nord-Ost" was resumed after detention of a native of Chechnya Khasan Zakaev, accused of helping the capturers of the theatre centre.
On October 23, 2002, during the musical "Nord-Ost", staged at the Dubrovka Theatre Centre, militants took 916 people as hostages. Three days later, during a special operation to free the hostages, 130 people died, and over 700 others were injured.
Today, the MCC has extended, on the request of the investigators, the arrest of Khasan Zakaev, who is now getting acquainted with the case files, until October 21 this year.
According to investigators, Zakaev and his defence will need three months more to study the case files; after which they will be sent to the prosecutor for confirmation of the indictment, the "Interfax" reports.
