Yerevan police detains nine opposition supporters
About 3:10 p.m. Moscow time, policemen have detained a group of activists, who came to the captured building of the police regiment in Yerevan, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports from the place of events.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 17, supporters of the opposition "Constituent Parliament" seized the building of the regiment of the patrol-and-security police service. One policeman was killed, and three others were wounded. Besides, two oppositionists were injured. Members of the "Constitutive Parliament" demand to release all political prisoners in the country, including their leader Zhirair Sefilyan. The "Heritage" Party and the Front of National Salvation "New Armenia" blamed the authorities for the incident. In Yerevan, the police began to detain supporters of opposition movements.
In particular, policemen have detained the wife and daughter of Varuzhan Avetisyan, the deputy chairman of the "Constituent Parliament", who is now in the captured building, and Karo Egnukyan, a member of the "Constituent Parliament" and his daughters, who at the time were writing on the poster: "There's no other way out".
Another detainee is Maxim Sargsyan, an activist of the civil movement "No to robbery!" After detention, he told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that nine people were detained in total.
"Law enforcers came up to us, and, without explanation, took us to the police station," he said.
The Armenian police refused to comment on the detentions to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
