In Elista, deputy chief and medical assistant of penal colony arrested

The Elista City Court has pronounced the decision to arrest until September 14 the deputy chief and the medical assistant of the penal colony, where in November 2015, a prisoner was found dead with signs of violent death.

On November 20, in Kalmykia, in the territory of the penal colony IK-1, the body of 28-year-old Dmitry Batyrev was found with signs of violent death. On November 24, three members of the penal colony were detained in the case of the prisoner's death. Prisoners of the penal colony IK-1 went on hunger strike after the Dmitry Batyrev's death. According to the Public Monitoring Commission (PMC) of Kalmykia, the hunger strike involved three inmates of the penal colony. The protest action lasted about a day.

"The Court has pronounced the pre-trial restriction measure in the form of detention until September 14 against Dordjiev, the deputy chief of the penal colony IK-1, and Ubushaev, the medical assistant of the penal colony," reported an official from the Elista City Court on July 19.

According to the Court's official, the Elista City Court arrested the deputy chief of the special forces unit of the Department for Kalmykia of the Federal Penitentiary Service (known as FSIN), the RIA "Novosti" reports.

The Court's official has refused to confirm whether the three detainees are involved in the case on beating a prisoner. She has noted that all of them are involved in the same criminal case.
