In North Ossetia, participants of ethnic camp explore heritage of Alans

Starting from August 1, the ethnic camp "Alan Footprint" has been working in North Ossetia, bringing together descendants of the Alans from Turkey, Hungary, and Syria.

The Alans are Iranian-speaking nomadic tribes of the Scythian-Sarmatian origin. Since the end of 4th century, some of the Alan tribes were involved in the Migration Period, while others settled in the territories adjacent to the foothills of the Caucasus.

For the first time, the ethnic camp "Alan Footprint" has been organized in the past year. This was noted by Soslan Khadikov, Acting Minister of National Relations of North Ossetia.

"We have invited our compatriots, ethnic Ossetians, who live abroad, to come to North Ossetia to visit the land of their ancestors. This year, we invited ethnic Ossetians living in Turkey to come to North Ossetia. Furthermore, the project also involves Ossetians from Syria and Jasz people from Hungary, who left Northern Caucasus in the 13th century and settled on the banks of the Danube. They call themselves Jasz people," the "Caucasian Knot" was told by Soslan Khadikov.

"We just help participants of the project not to forget their roots, culture, traditions, and customs," said Soslan Khadikov.

According to him, the programme of the ethnic camp "suggests immersion in the culture of the people." "As part of the camp work, the participants of the project will be involved in master classes for cooking of national pies and other dishes and for study of traditional costumes, dancing, and singing. Besides, the programme also includes visits to historical places, gorges, and towers," noted Soslan Khadikov.
