Irakly Alasaniya to take part in elections as majoritarian candidate in Gori

In Gori, Irakly Alasaniya, the leader of the opposition "Free Democrats" Party, will be nominated by the Party as a majoritarian candidate to the Georgian Parliament. He will replace Tamaz Shioshvili, earlier mentioned as a candidate in the city.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the "Free Democrats" Party was one of the first which applied for participation in the parliamentary elections. It has already been registered by the Central Election Commission (CEC). On July 16, party members presented the first twenty candidates from the party list to run for seats at the Georgian Parliament.

The elections to the Georgian Parliament are scheduled for October 8, 2016, and the election campaign was launched on June 8.

At the press conference held on August 10, Irakly Alasaniya has himself announced his nomination from Gori. He has noted that Tamaz Shioshvili, who has been earlier mentioned as a Gori candidate for a majoritarian seat at the Georgian Parliament, is going to leave the sphere of politics.

Irakly Alasaniya has expressed his confidence that he would win in Gori.

"This will significantly affect the results gained by the 'Free Democrats' at the elections," he emphasized on the air of the "Rustavi-2" TV Channel as quoted by the "Sputnik-Georgia".
