In Sochi, migrants stop their hunger strike

Foreign citizens, who on August 30 declared a hunger strike at a special temporary detention facility in the Sochi village of Vardan, stopped their protest action in connection with the improvement of their conditions of detention.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 30, in the village of Vardan of the Lazarevskoe District of Sochi, migrants, dissatisfied with delays in the deportation procedure and conditions of detention at the temporary detention facility centre for foreigners, declared a hunger strike. About 108 protesters were reported.

According to Semyon Simonov, a member of the "Southern Human Rights Centre", who controls the observance of the rights of migrants and stateless persons in Sochi, he has personally saw the notification on declaration of a hunger strike addressed to chiefs of the special temporary detention facility and signed by 83 migrants. He stays in touch with them vial mobile phone.

"Earlier, there has always been a tourist base here, and at present, according to my estimates, at least 150 migrants live here. Although, according to the centre's administration, there are 108 people here," Semyon Simonov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

He has noted that on August 31, 83 migrants, who signed the notification on declaration of the hunger strike, stopped their protest action. They have explained their decision by "the improvement of their conditions of detention and the promise of the law enforcement bodies to quickly study in details all their problems."
