Georgian authorities accuse "UNM" Party of desire to destabilize situation in country

On September 14, Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia, reported that the Georgian authorities became aware of the intention of the opposition "United National Movement" (UNM) Party to organize riots in the country. "The UNM's interests include radicalization of the situation... This statement is based on the specific information. Therefore, we are to carry out preventive measures to avoid aggravation of the situation at any polling station," emphasized the Georgian Prime Minister.

In turn, at a briefing held on September 13, Giorgi Mgebrishvili, Georgian Minister of Internal Affairs, announced the "mobilization of the Ministry in connection with obtaining the information about the intention to arrange a provocation during the election period," reports the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Members of the "United National Movement" Party deny the allegation of the authorities and claim that the interests of the Party include "the conduction of the elections in peaceful and tranquil situation for a peaceful change of power."

"The only source of destabilization in Georgia is the ruling party 'Georgian Dream', which for the past four years in power performs the violence," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Sergo Ratiani, a member of the Parliament, the executive secretary of the "UNM" Party.
