Svetlana Gannushkina is Laureate of Right Livelihood Award

In 2016, Svetlana Gannushkina, the Chair of the "Civil Assistance" Committee, has become a Laureate of the Right Livelihood Award "for her many years' commitment to the cause of defence of human rights and fair treatment of refugees and forced migrants, as well as tolerance to various ethnic groups." The awarding decision has been announced in Stockholm.

Svetlana Gannushkina is the founder and the head of the "Civil Assistance" Committee. In 1993, she participated in the creation of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial".

The TASS reports that the 2016 Laureates of the Award, apart from Svetlana Gannushkina, are NGOs from Syria and Egypt, and the editorial staff of the Turkish newspaper "Cumhuriyet".

The Right Livelihood Award was established in 1980 on the initiative of the writer and scientist Jakob von Uexküll with the aim to support those who offer effective solutions to actual problems.

Let us remind you that in November 2013, Gannushkina was awarded the International Stieg Larsson Award, and in July 2012, the HRC "Memorial" and Gannushkina received the Norwegian Sjur Lindebrekkes Award for democracy and human rights.
