Residents of Chechnya report on mass car impounding

In Chechnya, cars are seized and brought to car pounds for any violation of the traffic regulations and toning of car windows. This was reported by car owners. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the current measures are aimed at reducing number of road traffic accidents.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that starting from September 28, in Chechnya, law enforcers are engaged in large-scale activities, initiated by Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov and aimed at punishing violators of the traffic regulations. During the first two days of the large-scale activities, the police brought 1452 cars to car pounds.

Residents of Chechnya report that law enforcers can seize a car for an unfastened belt or any other violation of the traffic regulation and that it is difficult to release the car from a car pound.

According to Rizvan, a resident of the republic, he spent several years outside of Chechnya; however, he "never encountered such lawlessness."

On September 27, a special operative headquarters to reduce number of road traffic accidents in Chechnya was created in accordance with the Ramzan Kadyrov's instructions. The Chechen leader has stressed that violators of the traffic regulations should be punished in the toughest way, and he has also compared drivers in a state of alcoholic intoxication with terrorists.

Meanwhile, according to the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta", Ramzan Kadyrov also ordered to "shoot and kill offenders."

However, Chechen Prosecutor Sharpuddi Abdul-Kadyrov states that the words voiced by the Chechen leader were quoted out of context.
