Public movement of mothers of missing Dagestani residents launches its activities
Mothers of young men disappeared in Dagestan have founded the public movement "The Mother's Heart". According to members of the new movement, in Dagestan, disappearances are not investigated properly, and many of the incidents may involve the law enforcement bodies.
On October 4 it became known that relatives of Gashim Uzdanov, Pakhrudin Makhaev, Islam Magomedov and Shamil Djamalutdinov appealed to the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial". Starting from October 5, they kept holding actions in Makhachkala, demanding from the authorities to reveal the whereabouts of their relatives who went missing on September 27.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the decision to establish a public movement was made by mothers of missing Dagestani residents during the rally held in Khasavyurt on October 14.
On October 26, during a press conference at the office of the newspaper "Chernovik" (Draft), relatives of young people kidnapped in Dagestan announced the launch of the new social movement "The Mother's Heart" against extrajudicial executions and kidnappings. The press conference was attended by the mothers of young people kidnapped in Dagestan at different periods of time.
The aims of the movement "The Mother's Heart" include "public control over the activities of the law enforcement bodies and attraction of public attention both in the republic and abroad to the problem of kidnappings, torture, and extrajudicial executions in Dagestan. This was announced in the appeal of the mothers of the kidnapped Dagestani residents as read out at the press conference by journalist Orkhan Djemal.
