In Quarter 3 of 2016, Karachaevo-Cherkesia had no victims of armed conflict

In July, August and September of 2016, in Karachaevo-Cherkesia, there were no victims of the armed conflict in the North Caucasus. These are the findings of the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

In Quarter 1 and Quarter 2 of 2016, the republic also had no victims.

The above statistics cannot reflect with absolute accuracy the real number of victims. Not all the data gets into news reports. It is not always possible to verify the truthfulness of law enforcers' statements; and sometimes new data about the events of the reporting period become known after the publication of statistics by the "Caucasian Knot".

In 2015 in Karachaevo-Cherkesia, at least 4 people fell victim to the armed conflict in the North Caucasus, all of them were killed. In 2014, there were no victims of the armed conflict in the republic, while in 2013 at least seven people suffered: five of them were killed and two persons were wounded. In 2012, among seven victims of the armed conflict in Karachaevo-Cherkesia there were five persons killed and two wounded. In 2011, there were 34 victims: 22 killed and 12 wounded.

  • Stand-up comedian from Yeysk accused of insulting SMO fighter

    A criminal case was opened against Artemy Ostanin, a stand-up comedian from the city of Yeysk, after his performance in which he joked about a disabled person who had stepped on a mine. Investigators saw his words as an insult to a participant in the special military operation (SMO), but Ostanin himself claims that he was joking about a simple beggar.

  • Georgian journalist Amaglobeli fined for insulting policeman

    A judge has obliged Mziya Amaglobeli, the founder of “Batumelebi” and “Netgazeti” outlets, to pay a fine within an administrative case of insulting a police officer. At the hearing on the criminal case of the attack on the police officer, the journalist's defence demanded to challenge the judge, but the motion was dismissed.
