On November 28-December 4, 2016, 7 persons killed in armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week of November 28-December 4, 2016, seven persons were killed in the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. No wounded were reported. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The death toll includes a law enforcer and six suspected members of the armed underground, all of them in Dagestan.

Attacks on law enforcers

On December 1, in Khasavyurt, a driver of the car opened fire on law enforcers after they tried to stop his car to check his documents. He was killed by return fire. In his car, law enforcers found weapons, ammunition, and a grenade. The law enforcement authorities have identified the killed man as Ruslan Batsiev, a 38-year-old resident of Khasavyurt, who had earlier criminal record for involvement in an illegal armed formation (IAF).

On December 2, an official of the Department for Dagestan of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service (known as FSIN) was killed near one of the houses in the village of Zagorodny of the Kirov District of Makhachkala. An unidentified attacker shot on him and fled by car. On December 3 and 4, law enforcers detained two men suspected of involvement in the murder.

Special and counterterrorist operations

On November 28, the law enforcement authorities lifted the counterterrorist operation (CTO) legal regime, introduced on November 26 within separate territories of the Kazbek, Kizilyurt, and Khasavyurt Districts of Dagestan. According to a source from the law enforcement authorities, a summer camp of militants was discovered near the village of Endirei. It was burned down by law enforcers.

On December 3, the CTO legal regime was introduced in the territory of the village of Talghi of the Leninsky District of Makhachkala. Law enforcers cordoned off a private house, which sheltered men suspected of involvement in the armed underground. When offered to surrender, the suspects opened fire on law enforcers, and five militants were killed as a result of an armed clash. One of the suspects was identified as Rustam Asilderov, aka Abu Muhammad, born in 1981, the leader of the "Vilayat of Caucasus", a unit of the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS), banned in Russia. Besides, four militants of his direct subordinates were also killed. On December 4, the CTO legal regime in the village of Talghi was lifted. The special operation involved heavy vehicles.
