State prosecutor asks six years in prison for Elgiz Gakhramanov
The state prosecutor has asked the court to sentence Elgiz Gakhramanov, a member of the "Nida" (Outcry) movement, accused of drug dealing, to six years in prison.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Elgiz Gakhramanov was arrested on August 12, 2016. According to investigators, 3.315 grams of heroin were found on him. His advocate stated that the drug had been planted by policemen; and the activist was tortured to get his confession.
The state prosecutor, who spoke today at the Baku City Court for Grave Crimes, has demanded to sentence Gakhramanov to six years in prison, the "Contact" reports.
Let us remind you that Gakhramanov was included into the list of 119 political prisoners, compiled by the working group of the civil society, as well as into the list of 166 political prisoners, prepared by the Institute for Peace and Democracy (IPD) in cooperation with the Public Alliance "Azerbaijan without Political Prisoners" and the Monitoring Centre of Political Prisoners.
