Darya Polyudova files complaint against court's verdict

Kuban activist Darya Polyudova, sentenced on charges of extremism, has filed an appeal against the verdict to the Presidium of the Russian Supreme Court (SC). This was reported by the Darya Polyudova's mother. The woman noted that her daughter intends to declare a hunger strike.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Darya Polyudova is serving her sentence at a penal colony in Novorossiysk. In December 2015, the Oktyabrsky District Court of Krasnodar found the activist guilty of public calls for separatism and extremism and sentenced her to two years of imprisonment in a penal colony. The Krasnodar Territorial Court dismissed the appeal filed by Darya Polyudova, and the Russian Supreme Court refused to consider the cassation appeal filed by the activist.

Darya Polyudova in August 2014 was one of the organizers of the action "March for Federalization of Kuban", directed against Russia's policy towards Ukraine; however, the action never took place. The activist is accused of public calls to separatism and extremism; however, she refuses to plead guilty.

On her daughter's Facebook page, the mother of Darya Polyudova wrote that on January 19, her daughter filed an appeal against the verdict to the Presidium of the Russian Supreme Court.

"Darya has filed an appeal to the Presidium of the Supreme Court concerning her criminal case. On January 13, 2017, Judge Pupykina dismissed the comments about the protocol of the court hearing on restriction of freedom. We see only injustice around us. Darya wants to go on a hunger strike," the activist's mother wrote.

Let us remind you that in October 2016, it was reported that the activist has filed a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). On November 29, 2016, Darya Polyudova reported that she filed to court the documents with a request to replace her punishment with restriction of freedom. However, she was refused in that.
