On February 27-March 5, 2017, two persons killed in armed conflict in Northern Caucasus
During the week of February 27-March 5, 2017, at least two persons were killed in the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. No wounded were reported. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.
The both victims were suspected members of the armed underground in Dagestan.
Attacks on law enforcers
On February 27, on the outskirts of the village of Karamakhi of the Buynaksk District of Dagestan, law enforcers discovered a hiding containing weapons and ammunition. The location of the hiding was reported by one of the local residents. The hiding containing weapons and ammunition was located in an abandoned house with a yard on the outskirts of the village of Karamakhi. According to the Investigating Department for Dagestan of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), after the discovery of the hiding, a local resident "opened fire in the direction of law enforcers from a submachine gun" and was killed by return fire. No law enforcers suffered.
Special and counterterrorist operations
On March 5, in the area of the Buynaksk Street in Derbent, law enforcers carried out measures to detain people involved in a robbery committed in Derbent in February and cordoned off several houses. In the morning, a local resident blocked inside the house was offered to surrender and go out without armed resistance. The suspect let his wife and mother out of the cordoned-off house and then opened fire on the law enforcers. He was killed by return fire.
Explosions and terror acts
On March 2, in Derbent, 150 meters from the school No. 18, law enforcers discovered a Chevrolet car with explosives and a Kalashnikov submachine gun inside it. The car was found near a house with yard, which law enforcers were checking for presence of a militant inside it. The law enforcers evacuated the car to a safe place. After the inspection of the car, specialists of the explosive ordnance disposal team from the Russian FSB Department for Dagestan reported on discovery inside the car of two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) filled with striking elements and ready for use. The specialists transported the IEDs in a special container out of the city and undermined them. Their total capacity was about 700 grams of TNT equivalent. The secret services and the police have identified the owner of the car. He turned out to be an accomplice of the "Southern" armed grouping of militants.
Detentions
At about 6:00 p.m. Moscow time of March 5, in Ingushetia, three cars from escort of Khamzat Chumakov, Imam of the Nasyr-Kort Mosque, were stopped on the road on the way from the "Magas" Airport by law enforcers. Law enforcers did not produce their IDs and refused to explain anything. They just said it was a kind of the special operation "Anaconda". However, they did not stop other cars. All of them were of Slavic origin and were not local residents. They were accompanied by inspectors of the local road police. Six relatives of Khamzat Chumakov, who were in the car, were detained and brought to the Sunzha ROVD (District Interior Division) of Ingushetia. By evening, all the detainees were released.
Disappearance
On February 27, it was reported that on February 25, a soldier of a Russian Guard unit disappeared from the territory of the dislocation of his unit in the Naur District of Chechnya. The search for him is underway. According to one version, the contractor Sergeant became a deserter. The disappeared soldier is a native of the Leningrad Region.
