Journalists assert there was no public request for having Kadyrov Street in Makhachkala

The decision to rename Kotrov Street in Makhachkala into Akhmat Kadyrov Street is based on political reasons, including a desire of Dagestani authorities to please the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov, who is able to solve serious problems in the Kremlin, believes Magomed Magomedov, the deputy editor-in-chief of the "Chernovik" weekly.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 21, the Makhachkala Mayoralty published a resolution on renaming Kotrov Street in honour of Akhmat Kadyrov. A source in the Dagestani government said that "a direct order to rename the street was given by the republic's head Ramazan Abdulatipov."

"The very renaming of Kotrov Street into Kadyrov Street is a 'political trolling', in view of the " fact that the largest Salafi mosque is situated in this street," Magomed Magomedov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Milrad Fatullaev, the editor-in-chief of the RIA "Derbent", also sees a 'diplomatic gesture' in renaming Kotrov Street, which is backed up by practical interests of the head of Dagestan.

"By this gesture, Abdulatipov improve his relations with the influential person, who may help him in solving his future political or personal problems," Milrad Fatullaev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

He added that in Dagestan there is no public request to name any street in honour of Akhmat Kadyrov, except for Khasavyurt, where there is a large Chechen community.
