"Rosstat": 25% of Karachay-Cherkessians live below poverty line

During 2016, in Karachay-Cherkessia, the number of residents with incomes below the subsistence minimum increased by 5200 people, the "Rosstat" (Russian Federal State Statistics Service) reports.

According to the Karachay-Cherkessian Department of the Federal State Statistics Service, while following the results of 2015, in the republic, 110,000 people (23.5% of the total population of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR)) had incomes below the subsistence level, then by the end of 2016, they were 115,200 people (24.7% of the total population of the republic).

In 2016, in Dagestan, another region of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), the number of people below the poverty line declined from 11% to 10.7% and in Chechnya, it grew within 1% from 14.1% to 14.6%. Till present, the data for 2016 for Kabardino-Balkaria and the Stavropol Territory are not yet available. In 2015, the number of residents of those regions, who received incomes below the subsistence level, was 21.2% and 14.1%, respectively, the "KChR-Inform" reports with reference to the data of the republican department of the Federal State Statistics Service.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" has reported that according to the results of 2015, the KChR took the 78th (one of the last) place in the welfare rating of families by regions of the Russian Federation. The 79th and 80th places were occupied by Kalmykia and Kabardino-Balkaria, respectively.
