According to the source from the Dagestani law enforcement agencies, the incident occurred at about midnight in the Lak District not far from the Kumukh-Levashi road.

"An attacker threw a grenade from an abandoned building and then opened fire from automatic weapon in the direction of law enforcers. The attacker was neutralized by return fire," said the source.

According to the law enforcer, an unexploded grenade, a Kalashnikov submachine gun, and, presumably, an improvised explosive device (IED) were found at the place of the shootout, the RIA "Dagestan" reports.

According to the preliminary information, the killed suspect was identified as Magomed Gamaev, a 56-year-old resident of the village of Bakigli of the Lak District, the source stated. "At present, the law enforcers are to reveal whether he had any relation to any illegal armed formation," the "Interfax-South" quotes the source as reporting.
