Alexei Venediktov reports on attempts to question him on threats against "Novaya Gazeta"

Alexei Venediktov, the editor-in-chief of the "Echo Moskvy", has announced his readiness to come to the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) to be questioned in connection with his appeal about threats from Chechnya against journalists of the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 13, the "Novaya Gazeta" reported that the adviser to the leader of Chechnya and theologians of the republic called for violence against journalists after the publication of the materials about persecution of gays. In his blog, Alexei Venediktov supported his colleagues. Chechen Mufti Salakh Mezhiev and Shamsail Saraliev, a State Duma deputy from the Chechen Republic, promised that journalists would be punished.

"I am wanted by the ICRF in connection with my appeal ... about threats from Chechnya against journalists from the 'Novaya Gazeta'," wrote Alexei Venediktov in his Twitter on June 14.

According to him, investigators requested his contact information from the general director of the "Echo Moskvy".
