Defender of Movsum Samedov fears for his life
Movsum Samedov, the leader of the Islamic Party of Azerbaijan, is subjected to pressure in a penal colony. This was stated by advocate Yalchin Imanov. He believes provocations threatening his client's health and life can occur.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 7, 2011, members of the Islamic Party of Azerbaijan (IPA) were found guilty of terrorism and an attempt to seize power by force. Movsum Samedov was sentenced to 12 years of imprisonment. On July 12, 2012, Vagif Abdullaev, the Movsum Samedov's deputy, died in prison.
The administration of the penal colony No. 12 appealed to the court with a request to tighten the detention conditions for Movsum Samedov and transfer him to the Gobustan prison, reported advocate Yalchin Imanov.
"At present, Movsum Samedov is being kept in a cell-type room near a punishment cell. He and his cellmates saw a prisoner kept in the punishment cell with his arms and legs tied. Movsum Samedov and his cellmates asked warders to untie the prisoner's hands and feet. However, the administration considered that Movsum Samedov 'violated internal disciplinary rules,' and he was placed in a punishment cell for 10 days," says the advocate.
"From the very beginning, in the penal colony, warders treated Movsum Samedov with prejudice and imposed disciplinary punishments to create the ground to transfer him to the restricted Gobustan prison," Yalchin Imanov believes.
