In Tskhinvali, hunger-strikers complain about deterioration of their health state

In Tskhinvali, prisoners of a penal colony continue their hunger strike for the eighth day already. One of the prisoners has made a decision to stop his hunger strike because of deterioration of his health state.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 11, it became known that the prisoners of the Tskhinvali penal colony went on hunger strike with the demand to improve the conditions for their detention. On July 14, the President of South Ossetia dismissed Georgy Kabulov from his post as the chief of the Tskhinvali penal colony.

According to the prisoners, the penal colony is actually a prison under the roof, whereas they were sentenced to imprisonment in a colony-settlement. The prisoners also demand to increase the territory for the time in the open air, make windows in cells, allow relatives' visits two times per month, and improve medical care and supply of medicines.

According to relatives of the prisoners on hunger strike, "the hunger-strikers take only water and tea without sugar." "Their demands have not changed. According to my information, one of the prisoners stopped his hunger strike," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by a female relative of another prisoner.

On July 14, Felix Djigkaev was appointed by presidential decree the chief of the Tskhinvali penal colony to replace his predecessor Georgy Kabulov. The new chief believes that "the prisoners' demands can only be considered if they are provided by the law."

"I have already met the prisoners and listened to their demands. I just start getting acquainted with my duties, so let's see how those problems can be solved," Felix Djigkaev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
