Two Russian tourists die in explosion in Abkhazia

Two women died when they were on horseback riding in the vicinity of an ammunition depot. According to the preliminary information, they were residents of Saint Petersburg, the Abkhazian Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) reported.

This morning, the bodies of two people who died from shrapnel wounds were found not far from the ammunition depot where an explosion occurred.

An explosion at an ammunition depot in the Gudauta District of Abkhazia occurred in the afternoon of August 2. After the explosion, a fire broke out, during which shells continued detonating. The Abkhazian Ministry for Public Health reported on 60 people injured as a result of the incident. Of them, 27 people were hospitalized.

"At the time of the explosions, three women were on horseback riding in the vicinity of the ammunition depot. Two women, presumably residents of Saint Petersburg, were killed, and rescuers found their bodies in the morning. The third woman from Podolsk was found alive with broken hand," reported Mizan Lomiya, the press secretary for the Abkhazian MfE, as quoted by the "Interfax".
