Tax authorities unblock accounts of Azerbaijani agency "Turan"

Today, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Taxes has cancelled sanctions against the agency "Turan", but it still cannot resume its activities because of the absence of the information on the closure of the criminal case. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Shakhin Gadjiev, the deputy director for the agency "Turan".

On August 16, tax inspectors demanded from the agency "Turan" to present documents on its financial and economic activities for seven years and blocked its bank accounts.

On August 7, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Taxes instituted a preliminary investigation into the case against the agency "Turan". The accrued tax debt of the agency exceeded the amount of 37,000 manats (22,000 US dollars).

It should be noted that the tax claims against agency "Turan" were followed by the criminal prosecution of its director Mekhman Aliev, who was accused of illegal entrepreneurial activities and tax evasion. The position of the Azerbaijani authorities was condemned by international human rights organizations, the Council of Europe (CE) and the United States. On September 11, Mekhman Aliev was transferred from custody under police supervision.
