Rights defenders call on to investigate kidnapping of a Chechen militant's son

Four out of five relatives of Abbas Kuzhulov, sentenced for involvement in the armed underground and killed in Chechnya on September 21, are released after kidnapping. However, the whereabouts of an Abbas Kuzhulov's son still remain unknown. This was reported in the rights defenders' collective statement released in a social network.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 14, members of the Independent International Human Rights Group reported on the kidnapping in Chechnya of Iles Sultanov, Ilman Kuzhulov and Aishat Kuzhulova, as well as Taus and Markha Sultanova, relatives of 60-year-old Abbas Kuzhulov, sentenced in 2016 for involvement in the armed underground and killed on September 21 in the Vedeno District in an explosion of a mine during an investigative experiment.

As of September 21, four out of the Abbas Kuzhulov's five relatives were released, including his elder brother Ilman Kuzhulov, his wife Aishat, and Abbas Kuzhulov's daughters Taus and Markha Sultanova. This was reported last night by Mairbek Taramov, the director of the Chechen Human Rights Centre in Sweden, with reference to the Chechen Diaspora in Turkey.

Members of the Independent International Human Rights Group request the General Prosecutor's Office and the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) to investigate the disappearance of Iles Sultanov and "conduct an independent investigation" into the death of Abbas Kuzhulov, reports the statement published by Mairbek Taramov.
