Child returned from Iraq to Azerbaijan

One of two Azerbaijani children kept in a Baghdad orphanage has been brought by plane to Baku. The authorities have found relatives of the four-year-old boy.

In the evening on October 12, the child arrived at home, being accompanied by one of the officials from the Azerbaijani diplomatic mission, reported Khikmet Gadjiev, the chief of the press service for the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

According to him, measures are being taken to find in Iraq and return to the homeland other Azerbaijani children. "To take a child out of the country, we should at first identify him or her. Besides, an appropriate registration and approval from the government of Iraq are needed," reported Khikmet Gadjiev as quoted by the "APA".

The Azerbaijani MFA paid for the flight of the child. The Azerbaijani authorities found the relatives of the boy. A two-year-old girl still stays in a Baghdad orphanage. Children themselves do not know anything about themselves. According to unconfirmed information, their parents were Azerbaijanis, who joined militants and were killed in combat actions, the "Sputnik-Azerbaijan" reports.
