The dead Azerbaijani officer has been found by Armenian soldiers in front of one of their positions. According to the Armenian MoD, the deceased officer escaped from his military unit because of a crime committed there, reported Artsrun Ovannisyan, the press secretary for the Armenian MoD.

The deceased man was the Captain of the armed forces of Azerbaijan, a squadron commander, reported Artsrun Ovannisyan with reference to the operative and search information. He has also added that the Armenian side is ready to transfer to Azerbaijan the body of the deceased officer through the mediation of the Red Cross. Meanwhile, the Armenian MoD's press secretary did not specify how the Azerbaijani officer died.

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence has confirmed the death of its man, but not an officer, but a soldier, 18-year-old Bakhruz Djalilbeili.
