Video of Kuliev self-mutilation posted

Akim Kuliev, a resident of Dagestan, injured himself in a cell of the SIZO (pre-trial prison); this is shown by a video, posted on the YouTube on November 30. Kuliev refused from his evidence given under torture, said his advocate.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 25, a Russian mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov stated that his friend Akim Kuliev was suspected of setting the building of the district administration in Dagestan on fire. After the torture, Kuliev "cut his stomach open," said Nurmagomedov.

The video is posted on the channel of the RIA "Derbent"; it is seen how Kuliev inflicts wounds on himself, while remaining conscious.

"He cut his stomach open, because he could not bear abuses. He wrote a statement asking to protect him from the illegal methods used by policemen," the "Novaya Gazeta" quotes Shamil Khadulaev, a member of the Dagestani Public Oversight Commission (POC), as saying.

Maya Ilyasova, a Kuliev's advocate, has added that her client "found the courage to refuse from his earlier testimony," and that he was tortured with electric current.
