All Chechen conscripts sent to army
400 young Chechens will take their regularly military service in the units of the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD), stationed in the Southern Military District; and 100 others – in the units of the Russian National Guard (Natsgvardia), the Military Commissariat of Chechnya has stated.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the autumn recruiting campaign began in Chechnya on October 1. In total, it had been planned to recruit 500 conscripts.
According to militaries, the number of young Chechen people, wishing to serve in the army, is growing every year. "There are 50 candidates for one vacancy," a Commissariat source has stated.
According to the Commissariat, the overall recruitment contingent in Chechnya is more than 80,000 young people; and "this recruitment potential of the republic alone could cover all the Russian Army's demand."
Residents of Chechnya explain the desire to go to the military by "lack of prospects in the republic."
"We have nothing to do here, many of my friends are leaving in search of work," said a local resident named Anzor.
"I graduated from a technical school; I have sports ranks, driver's license, but I couldn't find a job here. If you have no links or big money, then it's impossible to find a normal job in Chechnya; therefore recruiting for the army is the only way out of this situation," said Ibragim, a resident of Grozny.
