Leader of anti-Sargsyan protests detained in Yerevan

On Friday, activists opposing the election of Serzh Sargsyan the Prime Minister of Armenia again blocked the streets in Yerevan. The police detained 37 demonstrators, including David Sanasaryan, the leader of the civil initiative "Reject Serzh".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in Yerevan, oppositionists hold daily rallies and protest actions. They block roads and cordon off administrative buildings. Yesterday, the police reported the detention of 122 demonstrators.

After Serzh Sargsyan was elected the Prime Minister on April 17, Nikol Pashinyan announced the beginning of a "peaceful revolution."

MP Nikol Pashinyan, the leader of the "Civil Contract" Party, has called on supporters not to use violence against policemen and not to fear of detentions.

"The authorities use this way to calm down the people and extinguish our movement. This is a 'velvet' revolution without violence," said the leader of the protestors.

Earlier, Nikol Pashinyan has announced for April 20 "total overlap" of Yerevan streets and blocking of metro stations.
