Political analysts predict early parliamentary elections in Armenia

The overcoming of the political crisis in Armenia will take place with account of the opinion of Nikol Pashinyan, an MP and the leader of the opposition, who has today achieved the resignation of Serzh Sargsyan from the post of Prime Minister. Mr Pashinyan's demand for early parliamentary elections will most likely be fulfilled, political analysts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" believe.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, Karen Karapetyan, First Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia has headed the government after the resignation of Serzh Sargsyan as Prime Minister.

Karen Karapetyan has technically headed the government after Sargsyan's resignation, but the issue of the ultimate Prime Minister should be decided at the political level, taking into account the opinion of the oppositional leader, said Grant Mikaelyan, a political scientist and a researcher for the Caucasus Institute.

"I think this issue has already been settled this morning during Karen Karapetyan's meeting with Nikol Pashinyan. Further procedures will be defined with a high degree of consideration of Nikol Pashinyan's opinion," Mr Mikaelyan told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, adding that Karapetyan will head the government during a certain period of time; and then, parliamentary elections will be appointed.
