In Yerevan, activists start spontaneous protests

The police sent special vehicles to the centre of Yerevan, where demonstrators started to gather after an appeal voiced by the leader of the protest movement. Participants of the action blocked the streets of the city.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that protest leader Nikol Pashinyan called on his supporters to come to the streets after Karen Karapetyan, acting Prime Minister of Armenia, had voiced a proposal to hold extraordinary parliamentary elections.

Protests were spontaneously started in different parts of Yerevan. People began to block the main roads of the city. The police began to accumulate its forces and special vehicles in the city centre, the "Interfax" reports.

"The Police of Armenia is taking and will take all necessary measures to prevent violation of public order. We follow the development of the situation," stated Ashot Agaronyan, the press secretary for the Police of Armenia.
