In Grozny, students report being obliged to come to "Immortal Regiment" march

It is planned that the "Immortal Regiment" action to be held on May 9 in Grozny after the military parade will involve at least 10,000 people, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been informed today by an official from the Chechen Ministry for Youth Affairs.

Students of local universities told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that they were obliged to take part in the events scheduled for May 9 and 10 on the occasions of the Victory Day and the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow of the Peoples of the Republic.

Earlier, the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow was marked in Chechnya on February 23, since that day in 1944 started the deportation of Chechen and Ingush people to Kazakhstan and Central Asia. In 2011, the authorities announced that the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow of the Peoples of the Republic will be marked annually on May 10, on the day of the funeral of Akhmat-Khadji Kadyrov, the first Chechen President, who was killed in a terror act on the May 9, 2004.

"We will have to spend the next two days to take part in mass actions in the centre of Grozny. Tomorrow [on May 9], we are to come to the 'Immortal Regiment' march and on the day after tomorrow, to the memorial events on the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow. It is strictly obligatory for us to take part in those events. If someone fails to come, he will face non-admission to exams and tests," said Umar, a student at the Oil University.
