US-based family donates bicycles to children of Nagorno-Karabakh soldiers killed in war
Members of the Gevrigyan Armenian family based in the United States have donated 56 sports bicycles to children of soldiers and officers killed during the April war in 2016. According to the donators, this is their first donation action in Nagorno-Karabakh.
On May 23, at the Stepanakert Palace of Youth, bicycles were handed over to children from the families of killed soldiers and officers, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by Grach Gevrigyan, a philanthropist from the United States.
According to Grach Gevrigyan, his family members and their supporters carried out social projects in Armenia, but in Nagorno-Karabakh, such an initiative is being held for the first time. "Out of 56 sports bicycles, 18 are intended for children under 10 years old and the rest for older children. We intend to continue our charity programmes in Artsakh [Nagorno-Karabakh] and attract more supporters for the charity actions," the philanthropist noted.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by Artak Beglaryan, the head of the Karabakh youth public organization "Artsakhakertum" (Discover Artsakh), that in 2017, the Gevrigyan family based in the United States contacted the NGO "Artsakhakertum" and offered to present gifts for children of soldiers and officers killed during the April war.
"We supported their initiative, provided lists of families, and helped with organizational issues in Stepanakert. I believe this is a very beautiful action, especially considering the fact that the families are fond of cycling and the sport may become popular at our place," Artak Beglaryan said.
